They can choose different colored sprinkles to decorate the tops of the heart cakes. Since these pans are not nonstick, I find it best to grease them with vegetable shortening and then dust them with flour. Then I fill each cavity with spoonfuls of batter until the cavity is two-thirds full. You may have to watch the baking time when you use this pan for the first time because these small cakes tend to cook quickly--faster than the time recommended for cupcakes.
One cake mix recipe makes 24 heart-shaped small cakes, so I would recommend buying two pans to save time.
